Crypto wallet risk levels map a 0–100 score to four verdicts — Low (0–25), Medium (26–50), High (51–75) and Critical (76–100) — each implying a different exchange response; Plastron assigns your wallet's level free.
Crypto Wallet Risk Levels — Low, Medium, High, Critical
Crypto wallet risk levels translate complex blockchain analytics into four verdicts — Low, Medium, High, and Critical — each carrying different implications for exchange compliance and required action.
Risk levels in crypto compliance were developed to solve a communication problem: how do you convey the output of a complex multi-hop transaction analysis to a compliance system, an operator, or an end user in a way that drives consistent decisions? The answer is a risk level scale — a mapping from a numeric score to a human-readable verdict category that indicates what action should be taken. The four-tier scale used by most blockchain analytics tools and adopted by Plastron — Low, Medium, High, Critical — corresponds roughly to the risk tiering used in traditional AML frameworks. Low risk (score 0–25) means the wallet has clean or near-clean counterparty history: no direct sanctions exposure, no mixer interactions, no stolen fund links. Exchanges will almost never flag a Low-risk wallet. Medium risk (score 26–50) means there are one or more flags that warrant investigation — indirect mixer exposure through a DeFi protocol, a counterparty that received small amounts from a flagged wallet, or a behavioral pattern that scores slightly elevated. Some exchanges will flag Medium-risk wallets for enhanced due diligence, particularly for large deposits. High risk (score 51–75) means there is significant, direct, or high-volume exposure in at least one category. Direct mixer interactions, significant stolen fund exposure, or multiple medium-level flags combining to a high composite score all produce High-risk verdicts. Regulated exchanges will almost always freeze a High-risk wallet for compliance review. Critical risk (score 76–100) means there is severe exposure — direct OFAC SDN involvement, a large-scale mixer interaction, or critical multi-category exposure. Critical risk wallets are flagged immediately and firmly at every major regulated exchange. Understanding which level your wallet scores at, and what specifically drives that score, determines what action is appropriate.
How Plastron Helps
Instant Risk Level Assessment
Plastron calculates your wallet's composite risk score and maps it to one of four verdict levels: Low, Medium, High, or Critical. The verdict appears prominently in your scan report along with the numeric score and the six-category breakdown that explains how the score was calculated. For most users, a single scan provides complete clarity on which risk level their wallet sits in.
Category-Level Scores Behind the Verdict
The composite verdict is driven by scores in up to six underlying categories. Plastron shows each category score separately — sanctions, mixer, stolen, darknet, fraud, phishing — so you can see not just your overall risk level but what is driving it. A High verdict driven entirely by the mixer category is very different from a High verdict driven by sanctions exposure: the severity, the exchange implications, and the appropriate response are all different.
Verdict-Specific Action Guidance
Each risk level implies a different course of action. Low means you can deposit with confidence. Medium means you should review the specific counterparties that drove the score and assess whether they warrant documentation. High means you should investigate the flagged counterparties in detail before depositing to a major regulated exchange, and prepare source-of-funds documentation. Critical means you should consult a compliance attorney before making any significant exchange deposits.
